Get Out On North Shore Waters

On Saturday, my husband and I took our boat from Salem to Gloucester.  It was a beautiful day; crisp, sunny, and the water was fairly smooth.  It’s always fun taking a leisurely cruise around Gloucester Harbor, and we were lucky to find a spot to tie up at the Madfish Grill – where we ate [...]

North Shore Lighthouses

Nothing says “Sea Coast” quite like a lighthouse, and the North Shore is fortunate to have a variety scattered around the region – some of them easily accessible to the public.
Visit the Salem Maritime Park, where you can stroll along Derby Wharf to the Derby Wharf Lighthouse at it’s end.  You’ll pass the replica tall [...]

Cape Ann Animal Aid Needs Your Support

Dear Reader,
I am writing this on behalf of my friends at Cape Ann Animal Aid in Gloucester.  Although I am now in my ‘forever home”, there are many more homeless pets waiting for their own special someone.  The staff and volunteers at the shelter do an amazing job in very cramped and outdated quarters.  [...]

The Myopia Thanksgiving Day Hunt

Thanksgiving morning I got up bright and early and went to Gloucester to help my friends at Cape Ann Animal Aid.  On the way home, I decided to try and find the Myopia Thanksgiving Day Hunt.  I knew they met somewhere near Waldingfield Road in Ipswich at 10:00 a.m., but wasn’t sure exactly where.  Parking [...]

North Shore Weekend Update

Here we go!  The holiday season is upon us and thoughts turn to….shopping (and sleigh bells, and peace and love, and turkey, and snow, and…shopping).  The Wenham Museum hosts the Sleigh Bell Gift Boutique, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m..  Find unique gifts crafted by North Shore artisans.  Mrs. Claus visits Saturday at 2 p.m..  [...]

September Massachusetts' Home Sales

Good news and not so much. New real estate numbers from the Warren Group show that in the state of Massachusetts, the number of single-family homes sold in September rose 4.5 percent over the same period last year.  The median sales price, however, dropped 1.4 percent to $285,000 this September versus September a year ago.  [...]

North Shore's Wild Side

Today I renewed my membership with Mass Audubon through Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield, which reminded me of how much I love the variety of trails and parks available to us on the North Shore.  Fall is a great time of year to get out and explore one of these great places.  Some of [...]

Weekend on the North Shore

I was going to write about “Getting out on the Water”  for my weekend post, but the National Weather Service is warning that “seas may reach 10-15 feet and will lead to dangerous surf and rip currents this weekend”.  This is due to the activity of Hurricane Bill.  So…instead, I’ve decided to focus on some [...]

Where is the North Shore?

Ask “what towns are considered North Shore towns?” and you’re sure to get a variety of answers.  Some will include Boxford, Georgetown, and even Billerica.   Others consider it the entire coast from Salisbury to Boston.  The North Shore Task Force, a regional planning agency, defines the North Shore as comprising the following cities and towns:

Beverly
Danvers
Essex
Gloucester

Hamilton
Ipswich
Manchester
Marblehead

Middleton
Nahant
Peabody
Rockport

Salem
Swampscott
Topsfield
Wenham
